Polyaspartic (Epoxy) Coating Installation Duration

There are several factors that come into play when it comes to installing polyaspartic coatings. The size of the project and weather conditions will have an impact on the length of the installation process. Our goal is always to finish the project as soon as possible in order to make things easier on you and your family. Projects will usually take anywhere from 6 to 10 hours. Small projects will take about a day while larger projects may take another day.

Our Installation Process

Each home and garage is different, which means that the approach for installing garage flooring will be different for each project. We have customizable floor coating options available to meet all of your specifications. We not only offer different types of coating options, but we also offer a broad range of colors that all have beautiful finishes.

You can customize your flooring to your personal preference and style. With our floors, your rooms will automatically become safer with slip resistant technology. Our floor coatings are also extremely durable and damage resistant. Floor coatings offer an economical way to add extra value to your home.

Preparation

The first step in our installation process is to prep the floor. We will use diamond grinding or a shot blast to smooth the floor. To minimize dust, we use grinders with vacuum systems attached.

Concrete Restoration

Before we can add a coating to your floor, we will check for any cracks or pits in your floor. If there are any, they will need to be filled before the coating can be applied.

Base Coat & Chip

After the concrete has been restored, we mix and apply a self-priming layer of Polyurea to be the base coat of the coating. Directly after the polyurea has been applied, we will broadcast the chip by hand to add color and texture to the flooring.

Scraping Floor

After allowing the base coat to cure for an hour or so, the floor will be scraped and vacuumed. This step ensures that any loose flakes are detached from the flooring.

Top Coat

Once the floor has been determined smooth enough, the final step of the coating process can commence. The final step is to add a top coat, which is typically a Polyaspartic clear coat. This coat will ensure that the floor is protected from damage and UV rays.

Here at Solid Custom Floor Coatings, we specialize in polyaspartic coatings. A question that we often get about our polyaspartic coatings is whether they will turn yellow or experience discoloration overtime. The simple answer to this question is that no, polyaspartic coatings will not turn yellow or become discolored. Our polyaspartic coatings are UV stable, will not be impacted by UV exposure, and come with a lifetime guarantee that they will not fade.

A polyaspartic coating is six times tougher than an epoxy coating. While epoxy coatings are a great choice for a protective coating, polyaspartic coatings may be a better choice if you are coating an area with high impact use, such as a garage floor. There is not a large cost gap between epoxy coatings and polyaspartic coatings, and because of the UV protection, many people opt for polyaspartic coatings.

Polyaspartic flooring often has a flake look that comes from vinyl paint chips. The chips create a texture on the floor that makes the floor less slick and more scratch resistant. There are also polyaspartic options that come in a quartz or solid style. This product can be used indoors or outdoors.

As far as indoor spaces, it does not really matter whether you choose epoxy vs. polyaspartic flooring. The design of the home will typically play some role in your choice of a flooring coating. Both of these types of flooring protectants require the concrete to be ground down in order for them to adhere to the surface of the concrete. This process can kick up a lot of dust, but our team carries equipment that has attached vacuums, so there should not be an issue with the dust following the installation.
