Can Polyaspartic Coating Discoloration Occur?

Home | Garage Floor Coatings | Page 30

Here at Solid Custom Floor Coatings, we specialize in polyaspartic coatings. A question that we often get about our polyaspartic coatings is whether they will turn yellow or experience discoloration overtime. The simple answer to this question is that no, polyaspartic coatings will not turn yellow or become discolored. Our polyaspartic coatings are UV stable, will not be impacted by UV exposure, and come with a lifetime guarantee that they will not fade.

A polyaspartic coating is six times tougher than an epoxy coating. While epoxy coatings are a great choice for a protective coating, polyaspartic coatings may be a better choice if you are coating an area with high impact use, such as a garage floor. There is not a large cost gap between epoxy coatings and polyaspartic coatings, and because of the UV protection, many people opt for polyaspartic coatings.

Polyaspartic flooring often has a flake look that comes from vinyl paint chips. The chips create a texture on the floor that makes the floor less slick and more scratch resistant. There are also polyaspartic options that come in a quartz or solid style. This product can be used indoors or outdoors.

As far as indoor spaces, it does not really matter whether you choose epoxy vs. polyaspartic flooring. The design of the home will typically play some role in your choice of a flooring coating. Both of these types of flooring protectants require the concrete to be ground down in order for them to adhere to the surface of the concrete. This process can kick up a lot of dust, but our team carries equipment that has attached vacuums, so there should not be an issue with the dust following the installation.

After Process Of A Polyaspartic (Epoxy) Coating Installation

We at Solid Custom Floor Coatings suggest waiting for about 4-6 hours after your polyaspartic coating has been laid to walk on the floor. Wait at least 12 hours post installation to move any medium-weight fixtures onto the floor; things such as boxes or furniture. You should wait 24 hours after the coating has been laid before moving any heavy objects onto the area, including cars.

Caring For Your Polyaspartic (Epoxy) Flooring

Once your flooring has set, it will be impenetrable and extremely durable. However, it is still important to care for the floor coating to ensure that it lasts as long as possible. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris that collects on your flooring using a soft brush or broom. Removing sand, dirt, and other litter will help limit the potential abrasion on the floor.

Use Proper Cleaning Agents

After installing a polyaspartic coating, it is vital to use the right cleaning agents to clean it. We discourage using household cleaners and detergents on polyaspartic (epoxy) flooring because it can leave a residue that attracts dirt. We also recommend avoiding citrus-based cleaners and agents that are corrosive. Instead, we suggest using a softer solution of water and a PH neutral cleaner such as Simple Green.

Polyaspartic coatings are one of the most commonly used types of floor coatings on today’s market. They are extremely durable, are UV resistant, and are often used on garage floors. They can last for years and years and are beautiful to look at. But when were polyaspartic coatings invented?

The early 1990’s introduced the first polyaspartic coatings. They were created by Bayer Material Science, which is one of the world’s most successful chemical companies. Polyaspartic coatings were originally invented as a protective steel coating for bridges, intended to protect the metal on the bridges from wearing away. Polyaspartic coatings are now used as protective coatings for all sorts of applications, including floors and concrete.
