However, concrete paint is one of the worst options out there for coating your garage floors. 

Why You Shouldn’t Use Garage Floor Paint

Garage floor paint may be cheap, but there’s a reason for that. It comes with a whole host of problems, shooting your dream of having a clean, pretty garage floor into pieces. Here’s what you need to know about why you shouldn’t paint your garage floors.

#1. It Wears Off

Paint is paint, concrete or not – it’ll wear off over time, especially in an area like your garage that sees so much traffic. You don’t paint the floors in your home, your garage floor should be no exception. This is because with all that wear and tear, the concrete paint will chip and flake off. 

While it is possible to seal your floors after using concrete paint, this involves dealing with dangerous and difficult chemicals. You’ll have to be extremely careful when using any kind of sealer to protect your concrete paint, especially in an area like your garage, which is an enclosed space. Even if you seal the paint, it still won’t do much to protect it from the daily impact garage floors have to withstand.

It’s not uncommon for your garage to be a very dusty area of your home, due to debris, dirt, dead insects, and material worn off of your garage floors. So, you’ve painted your garage floors with the idea of covering up stains and making them look better… Only to find that they still show tire marks, that they start looking dirty and chipping and worn out within just a few weeks, and that within mere days, they lose that pretty newly painted shine. No matter how much time and effort you put into painting your garage floors, the unfortunate reality is that garage floor paint isn’t just cheap in price – it’s cheap in quality and appearance too.

#5. It’s Difficult To Apply

Contrary to what you may believe, painting your garage floor is no simple task. Before you can even touch a paintbrush, you need to patch up any holes and cracks to smooth out the floor’s surface. Then, you need to cover up the baseboards and walls, so paint doesn’t get on them. And chances are, you’ll need to sand your floor too, so that the paint will actually adhere to it. Not to mention the fact that trying to get an even coat of paint if you’re not a professional can be really hard.
