Will my new floor be slip resistant?

Home | FAQ

Slip-Resistant Floor Coating: Polyaspartic vs Epoxy

How slip-resistant is Polyaspartic coating?

This Polyaspartic coating is textured due to the vinyl paint flakes, making it fairly slip-resistant floor coating. Polyaspartic coatings are less slick than epoxy coatings because epoxy is glass-like and very slick to walk on, especially when wet. Polyaspartic coatings are made to grip when dry. If slip resistance is a concern, we can add silica sand or a traction additive to the topcoat for extra resistance.

Typically, garage floors aren’t a concern when it comes to being slippery. Patios and porches on the other hand can be more of a concern when it snows or rains. We recommend you add the traction additive to your patio or porch project. Since the coating is chemical resistant, you can put ice melt on your surface to melt down the snow and ice with no worries of it eating away at the Polyaspartic coating

Polyaspartic (Epoxy) coating and concrete cracks

Will Polyaspartic (Epoxy) coating crack if the concrete cracks?

When your concrete cracks from shifting over time, usually the expansion joints will catch a majority of the cracks. We recommend coating in and out of the expansion joints instead of filling them in because this is where the majority of cracks form. If the joints are filled in the concrete cracks outside the expansion joints, you could see them manifest in the Polyaspartic coating. Hairline cracks are unlikely to come through the coating but if the cracks are larger than that, you will see a crack in the Polyaspartic coating

Coating Over Felt Pad

Will you do coating over the felt pad between the floor and the wall?

The felt pad between the floor and the wall cannot be coated without taking additional steps or the coating will not adhere to the soft material the pad is made of. The felt pad can be caulked over and then coated over. We use a special caulk that bonds to the felt pad as well as our specific product. There is an extra cost for caulking and coating the felt pad due to the extra material and labor. The cost to do this varies but it typically will run around $120 for a two car garage and around $190 for a three car garage.
